After months of development, Boise Fire has launched the new Acquired Structure Training (AST) Program website. The site provides property owners with a clear, step-by-step process to determine whether their building may be eligible for donation to the department for training. Before a structure can be used, the owner must complete several requirements, including asbestos abatement, utility shutoff, powerline clearance, ownership verification, and demolition permitting.
“Our goal was to streamline the process so that building owners know exactly what’s needed and our crews can transition smoothly from donation to training,” said Training Captain Joe Lunghofer.
Since early summer, the Training Division has acquired multiple structures for company-level training, live-fire scenarios, promotional testing, and multi-company drills. The program aims to secure hundreds of structures annually, giving firefighters access to realistic, hands-on environments that help sharpen critical skills.
“We look forward to providing the most realistic training possible to the members of this department,” Lunghofer added.
