Boise Fire Offers Hands-Only CPR/AED Training & Promotes Life-Saving App

February 9, 2026

February is American Heart Month, and the Boise Fire Department is committed to supporting the health and safety of our community through education and preparedness. That’s why we’re offering a free Hands-Only CPR and AED training on February 21. Boise Fire will be offering additional classes throughout the year; those dates will be posted on the City of Boise’s Event Page.

Cardiac emergencies can happen anywhere, at any time, and often the first person on scene is a bystander. Learning CPR empowers individuals to act during an emergency because doing so can make a difference before first responders arrive. Think about your family, friends, and coworkers: the more people who know CPR, the safer our community becomes.

The Boise Fire Department also encourages community members to download the free PulsePoint AED app. The app allows users to register publicly accessible AEDs and view their locations on a map, helping make these lifesaving devices easier to find during cardiac emergencies. Quickly providing CPR and using an AED has been shown to significantly improve survival rates for sudden cardiac arrest.

Community members can download the PulsePoint AED app to begin locating and reporting public AEDs, or visit the easy-to-remember website, aed.new, to add AEDs to the National Emergency AED Registry, which is vetted and maintained by local communities throughout North America.

A study published in the American Heart Association’s journal Circulation found that 66 percent of cardiac arrest victims who received a shock from an AED delivered by a bystander before emergency crews arrived survived to hospital discharge. In comparison, 70 percent of cardiac arrest patients who did not receive early CPR and AED intervention died or survived with impaired brain function.
