Dive Into Summer Reading

May 16, 2025

The Boise Public Library will launch its Summer Reading & Learning Celebration at JUMP 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, May 17. This free community event will take place inside JUMP and is packed with activities for all ages:

  • Live music and dance by Boise Rock School, Ballet Folklorico Mexico, Irish Dance Idaho, and more
  • LEGO Bus
  • Story Tent
  • Photo ops with mascots
  • Touch-a-Truck with construction vehicles and library bookmobiles
  • STEM activity area
  • Delicious eats for purchase

The Summer Reading & Learning Celebration officially kicks off the Boise Public Library’s Summer Reading Program and runs May 22-July 31.

“Summer reading is so much fun for kids and families because they can choose what they want to read, what interests them,” said Boise Public Library Director Jessica Dorr. “It also helps prevent ‘Summer Slide’, which is the loss of reading and studying skills during the summer break. By reading just a little bit every day – whether it’s a picture book, a chapter in a graphic novel, or an entire audiobook – summer reading is a great way to for families to bond while ensuring young minds stay sharp for the upcoming school year.”

All ages can participate in the Summer Reading Program, which includes a chance to earn books and prizes, as well as contribute to a community prize. To enter, participants register and keep track of their daily reading. Learn more at http://www.boisepubliclibrary.org/summer.

In addition to the launch event at JUMP, each Boise Public Library location will host their own Summer Reading kickoff events at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.
