BOISE— Ready, set… summer! Families across the Treasure Valley are invited to kick off a season of stories, creativity, and curiosity at the Summer Reading and Learning Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at JUMP.
This free, family-friendly event is your launchpad for a summer full of discovery. Throughout the day, the celebration will be buzzing with live music from Boise Rock School student bands, interactive exhibits, and playful learning experiences designed to spark imagination. Whether your child is a budding scientist, artist, reader, or all three, there’s something here to get them excited about learning beyond the classroom.
Highlights include:
- Story Tent — Drop in to read together, plus enjoy librarian-led storytimes at 11 a.m., 12 p.m., and 1 p.m.
- Live Performances
- 10:30–11 a.m. — Starbelly Dancers and Starbelly Student Troupe
- 11:30 a.m.–12 p.m. — Nritya Kalashetra Company – classical Indian dance
- 12:30–1 p.m. — Dr. Picklestein’s Traveling STEM Show
More than 20 community partners—including organizations like the American Red Cross, Zoo Boise, Discovery Center of Idaho, Idaho Humane Society, and Girl Scouts of Silver Sage—will be on hand with activities, resources, and ideas to keep kids learning and having fun. Valley Regional Transit will also have a bus onsite so kids and their caregivers can get familiar with the workings of the bus and sign up for Youth Ride Free summer bus passes.
Local favorites Benny’s Chick N Spuds, Alchemist Beverage Truck, Hip Pop Hooray Popcorn, and The Sugar Wagon will be serving up tasty treats for purchase.
“This celebration is where summer possibilities begin,” said Boise Public Library Director Jessica Dorr. “We’re inviting families to discover new interests, connect with community resources, and, of course, sign up for Summer Reading—because a great story can take you anywhere.”
