Mayor Bieter Presented 2019 Award of Legal Merit by University of Idaho College of Law

May 13, 2019

Boise Mayor David Bieter was presented with the 2019 Award of Legal Merit by the University of Idaho College of Law on Friday evening at a ceremony in Moscow.

The award “recognizes the outstanding contribution of an Idaho law graduate whose career exemplifies the best in the legal profession.” Mayor Bieter is a 1986 graduate of the college.

“Mayor Bieter’s contributions to the public welfare of Boise and the state are too numerous to name,” said Jerrold Long, dean of the College of Law, in the college’s press release about the award. “He represents the best attributes of a lawyer, public servant, and alum of the law school. Our faculty is honored to recognize him with the Award of Legal Merit.”

Given annually, the award is determined by a vote of the College of Law’s faculty, who use “standards of integrity, competence, service and leadership through work as a legal practitioner, service to the legal profession, service to the community or service to business/state/national interests.”

“My years as a Vandal made much of my professional career possible,” Mayor Bieter said. “This recognition is humbling and very meaningful to me. I wholeheartedly thank the University of Idaho, the College of Law and the faculty for this tremendous honor.
