City of Boise Seeking Applicants for Planning and Zoning Commission

Boise residents and persons living within the area of city impact, interested in serving on the City’s Planning and Zoning Commission can now apply. The commission makes final decisions on conditional use permits, planned unit developments and most variances. They also review appeals of administrative decisions.

Commission members, appointed by Mayor Lauren McLean and affirmed by the Boise City Council, will provide recommendations on rezones, annexations, subdivisions, and amendments to both the Development Code and Comprehensive Plan. Commissioners also participate on various committees and workgroups focused on the City’s long-term planning initiatives.

With up to twelve voting members, plus one student, the commission will represent, as much as possible, the diverse spectrum of people who enjoy all that Boise has to offer. Geographic diversity, as well as expertise and experience in areas relevant to the commission’s purpose, will be considered in the appointment process. Residents with backgrounds or experience in land use, environmental, and neighborhood planning, or related fields such as architecture, landscape architecture, and engineering are encouraged to apply.

Meeting frequency: Ability to meet twice each month. Meetings are typically held the first two Mondays of the month, starting at 5:30pm.

Commission members must be residents of the City of Boise and will serve a four-year term.
