Public Comment Opportunities for Upcoming City of Boise Budget Hearing

July 16, 2020

On Tuesday, July 21, Mayor McLean and the Boise City Council will be hosting a public hearing on the proposed budget for the 2021 fiscal year. The hearing will be held at the city’s regularly scheduled council meeting that begins at 6 p.m.

This public hearing on the proposed budget gives residents an opportunity to provide their feedback directly to the mayor and city council members. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and continued concerns about the spread of the virus in our community, this meeting will be hosted in a hybrid setting, allowing for both in-person and virtual attendance and testimony.

Due to the limited capacity within Maryanne Jordan Council Chambers, members of the public that are interested in watching the meeting are encouraged to watch via livestream. The link to the livestream will be available on the city’s website.

Providing Virtual Testimony

Residents who are interested in providing public testimony on the budget virtually are encouraged to sign up in advance. By signing up in advance you will receive an invitation to join the meeting. Residents can sign up by clicking here.

Virtual testimony is done through the Zoom platform. A moderator will let you know when it is your turn to testify and you will be given three minutes. More details can be found online.

If you are unable to sign up in advance, you can join the meeting virtually at the link provided above for the Zoom meeting. Anyone who wishes to testify will be invited to raise their hand through the Zoom platform to be acknowledged and permitted to speak. This opportunity will be presented after all testimony has been heard from those that have signed up in advance.

Providing In-Person Testimony

Due to continued COVID-19 restrictions, limited, physically distanced in-person seating will be provided for the upcoming budget hearing. A reduced number of people will be allowed inside city council chambers at any given time during the evening meeting. If the room reaches capacity, members of the public will be asked to wait outside and will be called in to testify individually. Members of the public who provide testimony in-person will be asked to leave council chambers after they have provided their testimony so that others may come into the room to provide testimony. We appreciation your cooperation if you choose to testify from city council chambers.

Entrance into City Hall for this meeting will be through the Main Street doors and will be first-come, first-served. Residents who want to provide testimony in-person will sign up when arriving at Boise City Hall. Each person will be given three minutes to testify – the same amount of time given to those who testify virtually. Members of the public are asked to wear face coverings when coming inside the building. More details can be found online.

If you are unable to attend the budget hearing on July 21, you can still submit your feedback online or by calling (208) 608-7000 prior to the meeting for your comments to be included in the record. This deadline is provided to allow the mayor and council members time to review all feedback prior to the public hearing.

Members of the public who have additional questions or concerns about the upcoming budget hearing can contact (208) 608-7002.
