Boise Residents to Receive $27.9 Million Rebate

September 23, 2020

Boise is going through hard times. That's why earlier this year Mayor Lauren McLean and Boise City Council decided to take a 0% base property tax increase. Now, because of that forethought, the city will recoup a onetime rebate worth millions.

Boise will participle in the Governor’s Public Safety Grant Initiative program. The program will rebate Boise with public safety costs from the State of Idaho, using Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES Act) funds.

The city will receive a one time $27.9 million dollar rebate, 3% of that total will cover administrative costs. This means an estimated $225 savings for the average home in Boise while still providing the essential services Boiseans expect and deserve.

“We're passing this property tax rebate onto our residents because they need as much relief as possible this year. Just as Boiseans tightened their belts, we tightened ours by not taking the 3% allowable to cities. And we see this one-time rebate as helpful relief for our residents in this unique time,” McLean.

This is a one year only program and the fiscally conservative thing to do. Boise will not turn down a rebate that will help residents weather these hard times. The city is proud of its unique partnerships and will continue to explore new ideas and collaborations that benefit all of Boise.
