Mayor Lauren McLean has named Shawn Wilson the City of Boise’s new Department of Planning & Development Services (PDS) Director, pending confirmation from city council on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
"I’m so pleased that Shawn has accepted my offer to lead our Planning & Development Services Department at this critical time," said Mayor McLean. "Shawn is a trusted and respected leader at the city with a proven ability to get big jobs done. We worked hard to modernize our zoning code so that Boise gets to decide how Boise grows. I wanted to find someone who will lead us through implementing the new rules with a calm and steady hand. Shawn brings that and more."
Educated as a chemical engineer, Wilson has spent the past 25 years supporting public agencies in their planning and implementation efforts. Wilson currently oversees the City of Boise’s facilities team, which is responsible for city capital projects and maintaining city assets. His work is visible throughout the City of Boise and our community having led strategic and facilities planning for the water renewal program, Boise Fire, the Boise Police Department, and the Boise Public Library.
"It is an honor to be selected to lead the Department of Planning & Development Services as we implement the modern zoning code and see our city create more housing at Boise budgets, incentivize more transit-oriented development and ensure we’re growing in a sustainable, climate ready way," said Wilson.
Pending confirmation Wilson will take over for Interim Director and Public Works Director, Steve Burgos, on Wednesday, July 17th.
