City of Boise Seeks Community Input For City Flag Redesign
January 10, 2025
The City of Boise is excited to announce that residents will have a unique opportunity to provide input on the design for a new city flag, which will be revealed later this spring.
“In recent years, states and cities across the nation have embarked on a journey to redesign their flags to embrace a new identity or mark a new era for their communities,” says Mayor McLean. “Boise is such a vibrant city, and it’s time that our city flag represents our community, history and values.”
The process for the flag’s redesign includes community involvement at every step. A survey will be released next week, asking residents to prioritize visuals and values that they would like to see portrayed on the new flag. The survey results will then inform a call for local artists to submit designs in early February.
The Flag Design Committee, composed of a diverse group of community stakeholders, will select finalists through a blind review process. Selections will be guided by a rubric developed from the initial public survey and best practices of flag design. The city anticipates presenting the final designs to the public for a vote in March.
“I look forward to seeing the ideas and designs that come from our community,” McLean added.
This project will be presented to Boise City Council during Tuesday’s work session. Early next week, residents will have access to the community survey and can keep track of the progress of the flag’s redesign on the city’s website.
