Boise City Council Will Consider a Flag Resolution, City Accepts Pro Bono Legal Services

May 2, 2025

On Tuesday, May 6, Boise City Council will consider a resolution confirming official city flags.

“The City of Boise will continue to fly the flags on City Hall Plaza that represent our community and speak to our values of caring for people and welcoming all,” said Mayor McLean. “This resolution formalizes which flags are considered the official flags of our city.”

“The flags the city flies are an expression of our values and responsibilities, which include a commitment to equality, inclusion, and civic pride. This is our lawful expression of our dedication to ensuring all members of our community feel seen, respected, and welcome,” said Boise City Council President Colin Nash. “This resolution reflects not only our municipal values but also our civic duty to uphold the principles of dignity and belonging in public spaces.”

This resolution acknowledges, supports, and formally ratifies that the flags flown at City Hall are in compliance with Idaho State Law.

Local attorneys Erik Stidham, Jennifer Jensen, Alex Grande, and Anne Haws as well as several of their colleagues from Holland & Hart, have volunteered to represent the city pro bono if any legal action is taken against the city on this matter.

“The passing of HB96 has already created division, confusion, and conflicts across the state and across our city,” Mayor McLean added. “The City of Boise is grateful for the free legal services offered by local attorneys as we navigate the future of this bill, ensuring we have the legal support we need at no expense to Boise taxpayers.”

Members of the public are invited to watch Tuesday’s city council meeting in-person or online.
