BOISE — Boise Mayor Lauren McLean joined mayors from across Ada County on Wednesday evening to celebrate local students at the annual Mayors’ Awards to Youth ceremony. Held at Boise City Hall, the event recognized outstanding young people who were nominated for demonstrating exceptional character and commitment to their communities.
“For over 30 years, this program has honored students that have made meaningful contributions to our community, or students that have overcome significant hardship,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. “These young students embody the values that we all hold dear – strength through adversity, service to others, and building a more connected community. Our cities, and region, are stronger because of these young residents.”
Since its founding in 1994, the Mayors’ Awards to Youth program has highlighted students who rise above adversity, serve others, and consistently exhibit kindness and integrity. This year’s ceremony continued that tradition, honoring 24 students from middle schools, junior high schools, and high schools throughout Boise, Garden City, and Meridian. All nominated students received awards, reflecting the program’s mission to celebrate a wide range of inspiring contributions.
Nominations for the awards were submitted by school staff earlier this year, with educators encouraged to identify students who demonstrate strength of character, compassion, and service to others. Eligible nominees included students in grades 7 through 12 from public, private, and homeschool networks across Ada County. You can learn more about the program here.
