City of Boise Receives $50,000 in Funding for Youth-led Climate Action Projects

BOISE – The City of Boise has received $50,000 in grant funding to support another year of youth-led climate initiatives. This funding, awarded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, empowers local youth ages 15 to 24 to take bold climate action by partnering with local organizations on innovative projects. Applications for youth to apply for project funding are now open until October 2.

“This program empowers our community's youth to get involved in local climate action in meaningful ways and I encourage young Boiseans with a project in mind to apply for funding,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. “Boise’s Youth Climate Action projects have played an important role in creating a sustainable and resilient future for our residents, and young people are leading the way.”

This is the third year that the City of Boise has received funding from the Youth Climate Action Fund. Over the past two years, the city has awarded $130,000 to support 32 impactful youth-led projects. Initiatives have ranged from planting shade trees and painting murals to installing e-bike charging stations and adding bird-safe window designs to schools. The success of these projects helped secure another year of funding.

“Community action and partnership are essential to reaching our climate goals, and young people bring innovation and creativity to that work,” said Boise Public Works Director Steve Burgos. “We’re excited to support another year of inspiring projects that turn ideas into meaningful climate action.”

The 2026 Youth Climate Action Fund will support up to 20 projects, with awards ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Applications are due October 2, 2026. For more information and application details, visit the Boise Youth Climate Action Fund webpage.
