BOISE – Mayor Lauren McLean has selected Jason Taylor as the next Director of Arts & History. Taylor comes to the city after serving nearly 18 years with USAID, most recently as the Chief Operating Officer for USAID in Nigeria.
“I appreciate Jason’s deep experience leading public institutions focused on uniting diverse communities, strengthening civic infrastructure and elevating the role of culture in public life,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. “Jason and I share a passion for creating vibrant communities that bring residents together through the arts, history and culture. I look forward to his leadership and working with him as we continue to create a city for everyone.”
“I’m excited to help Boise strengthen its cultural legacy and civic imagination at a moment of transformational growth—where arts, heritage, and storytelling are central to shaping an inclusive, participatory, and future-facing city,” said Taylor. “I look forward to supporting local creators, honoring community memory, and expanding cultural access to ensure that the arts and humanities help shape our city’s evolving identity.”
Beyond his professional credentials, Taylor is a performing member of the Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale and has previously performed in theater and choral organizations in multiple cities. He holds an MA in Law & Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University and a BA in English & American Literature and Philosophy from Brandeis University.
Taylor is expected to be confirmed by City Council and sworn in by Mayor McLean during their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. His official first day with the city is planned to be the following day. All City Council meetings are open to the public and livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.
