Boise Joins America’s 250th Anniversary Celebrations

January 15, 2026

BOISE - The City of Boise is proud to participate in the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and invites every Boise resident to renew public engagement with history and civics, and inspire action for our shared future.

Through arts and culture, storytelling, exhibitions, civic events, history-themed gatherings, reading resources, and the city’s Fourth of July celebration, we will join communities across the United States to mark this anniversary in ways that honor our past and look ahead to the next 250 years.

Guided by the five themes presented in the American Association for State and Local History’s 250th Anniversary Program Field GuideUnfinished Revolutions, Power of Place, We the People, American Experiment and Doing History—the city’s commemoration reflects what makes Boise unique: a community grounded in history, strengthened by diverse voices and committed to building a thriving future for generations to come.

“This is a historic moment, as communities across the nation come together to reflect on 250 years of the American experiment,” said Boise Mayor McLean. “Here in Boise, we are celebrating not only where we’ve been, but where we’re going—guided by shared values, civic pride, and a commitment to shaping a better future together.”

Boiseans of all ages are invited to discover and reflect on the city’s rich history through a series of America 250 events. From art and history exhibitions and student showcases to community events and guided and audio tours, together we’ll explore the people and places that have shaped our city and ways to participate in and contribute to the ongoing American experiment.

The event series will kick off with a staged reading by Boise Contemporary Theater of Heidi Schreck's Broadway hit, What the Constitution Means to Me, on February 5 at JUMP. For additional details and a full schedule of city-sponsored events visit cityofboise.org/America250.
