BOISE – The City of Boise has been awarded $5.6 million from the Department of Transportation to plan for a future east-west extension of Lake Hazel Road.
“This funding provides an incredible step forward for our community and region,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. “Once completed, the Lake Hazel extension will connect southwest Boiseans to future jobs and provide a critical roadway for industrial expansion.”
Boise’s BUILD grant will be used to determine the exact location and design of the future roadway south of the Boise Airport, bringing the project to shovel-ready. This process includes conducting an environmental screening, studying potential railroad crossings, and outlining a phased implementation plan to prepare the project for future capital investment.
“As Boise grows and our roadway funding remains constrained, we are grateful for our federal partners who have helped quickly move this vital community project forward,” Mayor McLean continued. “Thank you to Idaho’s congressional delegation for their support in bringing these federal tax dollars back home to Boise so we can invest in our city’s growth.”
Alongside Idaho’s congressional delegation, ACHD and community partners have supported the city in pursuing this funding. The Department of Transportation awarded the competitive funds to the city through the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program. Boise was one of several communities across the country selected to receive funding through the program, which awarded $1.73 billion to 127 projects nationwide.
