The City of Boise will continue to operate Ivywild Pool (2250 S Leadville Ave.) until Labor Day, Sept. 2. Boise Parks and Recreation leadership made the decision to extend the summer season at this municipal pool based on citizen feedback and the desire for an extension of pool hours throughout the month of August.
“Traditionally, our public pools close in coordination with the start of the school year,” said Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. “We have received feedback from our customers about the possibility of continuing the season through Labor Day. We’ve listened and are excited to give the extended season a try at Ivvywild pool. We look forward to seeing how the community responds to these additional hours of operation.”
Boise Parks and Recreation manages six municipal pools across the city. The pools typically close in mid-August due to the loss of seasonal staff and a drop in daily visits when school is in session. In addition, Boise Parks and Recreation partners with the Boise School District to provide pool availability for swim team practices at Borah and Fairmont Pools starting mid-August through October. This provides much-needed facilities for local high school swimming programs to help athletes succeed.
Hours for the extended swimming season at Ivywild will be:
Monday – Friday
- 10 a.m. to noon for lap swim and pre-school swim
- 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for open swim
Saturdays and Sundays (starting Aug. 24) and Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 2)
- Noon to 1:30 p.m. for lap swim
- 1:30 to 5:30 for open swim
Boise pools are staffed by certified life guards. Children must be at least 9-years-old to visit the pool without an adult. Children eight-years-old and younger must be supervised in the water by a guardian age 16 or older.
