Seasonal Dog Off-Leash Program begins Nov. 1 at Ann Morrison Park, Optimist Youth Sports Complex

October 28, 2021

Boise Parks and Recreation’s popular seasonal dog off-leash program starts at two city parks Monday, November 1. Both Ann Morrison Park (1000 S Americana Blvd.) and Optimist Youth Sports Complex (9889 W Hill Rd. Parkway) will once again become seasonal dog off-leash areas now that fall sports have wrapped up. The program runs through the end of February.

All areas of the two parks are available for off-leash dog use from sunrise to sunset, with the exception of Boise River Greenbelt paths, parking lots, roads and playgrounds. Owners are reminded to please pick up after their pets.

“Having dog off leash time from November through February at Ann Morrison and Optimist parks has become a tradition our dog lovers look forward to every year,” said Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. “It not only takes some of the wear and tear off of Together Treasure Valley Dog Island, but also provides some awesome community interaction in huge open areas for owners and their pets.”

At Ann Morrison Park, Together Treasure Valley Dog Island will remain open throughout the winter, but users should note that seasonal draw down of water in the ponds surrounding the island is underway. Signs will be posted at the park warning users of the potential for unsafe ice as temperatures drop. Please be careful and keep your pet away from the banks.
