Seasonal Dog Off-Leash Program Expands to Simplot Sports Complex on November 21

November 16, 2022

Following analysis of the City of Boise’s park inventory and wintertime use, the Boise Parks and Recreation Department’s popular seasonal dog off-leash program is expanding to Simplot Sports Complex starting Monday, November 21. The program will continue at the 161-acre park in Southeast Boise through February 15, 2023.

Boise’s seasonal off-leash program, which is already underway at Ann Morrison Park and Optimist Youth Sports Complex, allows for all areas of the park, except for the parking lots and playground, to be available for off-leash use from sunrise to sunset.

“Our team continues to look for opportunities to add dog-friendly parks and areas in neighborhoods across the City of Boise,” said Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. “With sports leagues and events winding down, this is a great time to utilize Simplot Sports Complex as an additional seasonal dog off-leash park, providing a large, accessible area in Southeast Boise for four-legged friends and their owners to explore.”

While the seasonal off-leash program ends at Simplot on February 15, it continues through February 28, 2023 at Ann Morrison Park and Optimist Youth Sports Complex. Dog owners are reminded to please pick up after their pets and be mindful of other park users during off-leash season at all three sites. This is also a good time of year to obtain or renew an animal license for your pet. Both can be done by visiting the City of Boise’s animal licensing page.
