City of Boise Investing in New Park Features in West Boise Park

August 14, 2025

A 10-acre undeveloped area of West Boise’s Charles F. McDevitt Youth Sports Complex is getting an upgrade. This morning, City of Boise leaders, community members and Neighborhood Association representatives celebrated the start of construction on new park features along Eagle Road with a golden shovel ceremony. The regional park and sports complex, which currently boasts baseball fields, a fishing pond, walking paths and a playground, will soon feature new and exciting additions including a nature play area, a bicycle pump track with skate features, single-track bike trails and more.

"It’s always exciting when we break ground on new features that I know will serve kids and families in West Boise and beyond,” said Mayor Lauren McLean. “It’s even more impactful knowing more than 3,400 people who live within a 10-minute walk of this park will soon be able to make new memories and enjoy the benefits of outdoor recreation in this special place. It's a perfect way to honor Chuck's legacy.”

Also coming soon, new concrete pathways that make a loop around the park perimeter, a fenced dog park, a basketball court, plus new trees and native perennial plantings. The $1.2 million in investments is funded by impact fees generated through community growth and development.

These new elements were chosen by neighbors and community members through outreach and engagement opportunities including open houses and surveys. This feedback helped shape the updated master plan for the park site that create new and exciting recreational opportunities for Boiseans.

“This project has been a long time coming and we are grateful for the passion our residents have for their parks and open spaces,” added Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway. “We look forward to improving and expanding our offerings here at Charles F. McDevitt Youth Sports Complex, a park named in honor of a longtime advocate for parks and open space in Boise. I have a feeling Chuck McDevitt would be proud of this evolution and the city’s commitment to completing the park.”

Construction of the new park features will continue through the fall and winter, with completion expected in 2026.
