City Of Boise and Leap Housing Seek Applications For Next Phase of Tiny Home Pilot, Adding RVs

April 3, 2024

The City of Boise, in partnership with LEAP Housing, is excited to announce the expansion of its innovative housing tiny home on wheels pilot program to include Recreational Vehicles (RVs). The city is now seeking an additional five to ten tiny home pilot participants who are willing to host a tiny home on wheels or an RV on their property.

In 2023, the first pilot participant received their temporary use permit and has been enjoying their tiny home in North Boise since last Summer. In an effort to continue to look for innovative solutions, the city will permit around five RVs for housing throughout the city for up to 18 months. The RVs must be operable and sit on a private developed parcel, like a backyard or a single-family home.

"We are excited to expand our innovative housing pilot to include RVs and continue to build on our momentum from the tiny home on wheels pilot. By exploring alternative housing options, we are working towards a more inclusive and affordable Boise for all residents," said Kyle Patterson, Director of Innovation and Performance at the City of Boise.

"The pilot provides practical ways for normal community members to make a difference with the assets they have. People are raising their hands and asking how they can make their backyards safe and suitable for tiny home households," said Brian Woodward, Chief of Staff at LEAP Housing.

As the pilot progresses, the City of Boise remains committed to looking at and evaluating all types of housing solutions for our residents. The Idaho Policy Institute at Boise State will conduct evaluations to monitor the progress and feasibility of the pilots and provide recommendations to Boise City Council.
