The City of Boise is applying for up to $6,500,000 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Pathways Removing Obstacles (PRO) Housing program. Boise’s application outlines opportunities to invest HUD funding to support the development and preservation of affordable housing in our community. Funds would be used to seed a revolving loan fund to provide loans to affordable housing development or preservation projects. Payments on the loans would be returned to the fund, allowing for investments into the community for years to come.
“We remain steadfast in our efforts to ensure that all Boiseans have safe, affordable housing. This grant will allow us to break down barriers to developing and preserving affordable housing and accelerate our work to invest in affordable housing,” said Mayor Lauren McLean.
Boise was one of over 175 applications received by HUD for the first-round competition in 2023, which awarded $85 million across 19 states and the District of Columbia, but was not selected. In this second round, HUD will provide $100 million using the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) statutory and regulatory framework familiar to municipalities.
The City of Boise is seeking feedback on its application, which can be found online. Comments can be submitted through October 13, 2024, by emailing Housing@CityofBoise.org, mailing City of Boise, ATTN HCD, PO Box 500, Boise, ID 83702 or by faxing 208-384-4195.
