City Announces Changes to Short Term Downtown Parking

May 19, 2025

BOISE – Due to heightened demand for short term parking, the City of Boise will implement changes to parking downtown, effective the last week of May.

The three main changes include expansion of meter zones, uniform rates and extended enforcement hours.

“We are promoting a better utilization of our limited parking downtown,” said Tyler Johnson, Code and Community Resources Senior Manager for Parking Services. “As a result of these changes, we expect to see more short term parking availability and better traffic flow, making the experience of visiting downtown a better one.”

Expansion of Parking Meter Zones 1 and 2:

Zone 1 will add new parking spaces and extend outward by one block, covering most of the core of downtown short term parking spaces. Zone 2 will move one block farther to the South, West and East of downtown while Zone 3 will be distributed mostly north of the Capitol building. This reconfiguration will optimize space usage and improve traffic flow. A map of the new parking zones is attached.

Uniform Parking Meter Rates:

Parking rates will now be the same from Monday through Saturday, ensuring uniformity and simplifying payment processes for drivers. There are no increases in parking rates during the week; this change affects Saturday rates only.

Uniform Enforcement Hours:

All zones will be enforced from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. This change adjusts Zone 3 current enforcement hours.

The transition will be implemented between May 27 and 30 and involves replacing physical stickers on some Zone 3 meters — a process anticipated to take several days. While this is underway, updates to smart meters and the Parkmobile system will be executed swiftly to avoid confusion, ensuring a smooth transition for all users.

Updated information about parking rates and a new map of the parking zones in downtown, will be updated on May 27 on the city’s Parking Services website.
