BPD Watch Log: Quick arrest made in convenience store robbery; suspect arrested on two felony charges after incident downtown

Arrested: Steven Brown, 61, Kuna

Charges: Robbery (F)

On July 7th around 4pm, Boise Police were dispatched to a report of a robbery at a business on the 500 block of S. Capitol Blvd.  The suspect had fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.  The incident was captured on video surveillance and the first officers on scene were able to quickly distribute a photo of the suspect to additional incoming officers. Eleven minutes later an officer located a male matching a description of the suspect from the surveillance photo near 13th and Front Street.  After an investigation the suspect was identified as Steven Brown and taken into custody.  Officers also were able to recover the cash stolen from the business as well as the suspect’s discarded jacket and hat that were worn during the robbery.  Brown was taken to the Ada County Jail and booked on a felony charge of Robbery.

Arrested: Joey Zayas, 24, Kennewick, WA

Charges: Aggravated Assault (F), Grand Theft (F)

On July 6th around 11:50 p.m. Boise Police were dispatched to a report of a fight with a gun near 11th and Main.  After an investigation officers learned that a suspect pointed a firearm in a threatening manner toward two victims during an altercation, the suspect then fled the scene with two other subjects.  Officers were able to find the suspect’s vehicle driving a short distance away and performed a traffic stop on the vehicle at 9th and River.  A narcotic detecting K9 also responded to the scene and alerted to the odor of a narcotic substance in the vehicle.  After a search of the vehicle officers found a small amount of suspected marijuana and a firearm matching the description of the one showed earlier.  The firearm was also found to be stolen.  After further investigation the suspect, Joey Zayas, was booked into the Ada County Jail on two felony charges of Grand Theft and Aggravated Assault.
