Investigation ongoing following crash that claimed the life of 3-year-old girl

Sadly, a 3-year-old Nampa girl has passed away from injuries sustained in a collision early on the morning of Tuesday, July 2nd.  Boise Police responded to the multi-injury crash at just after 12:00 a.m. on Orchard Street south of Diamond Street.  A van and an SUV had collided and extrication was required.  All four subjects in the van and the driver of the SUV were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the van was a 34-year-old woman, the front seat passenger was a 16-year-old male, the two back seat passengers were a 3-year-old girl and an 8-year old girl.  The 3-year-old received life threatening injuries and passed away from these injuries on the night of Monday, July 8th.  On Wednesday, the Ada County Coroner identified her as Odalys Martinez of Nampa.  The 8-year-old and the 16-year-old remain in the hospital.

The driver of the SUV is 53-year-old Anna Mihelich of Boise.  She was transported to the hospital after the crash and was treated and released.  She is cooperating with the investigation.

What Happened: The SUV was traveling southbound on Orchard and the van was traveling northbound when the collision occurred. BPD Patrol officers, detectives and a crash reconstruction team responded to the scene.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation and detectives are waiting on toxicology reports, which could take several weeks to complete. No charges have been filed at this time.
