December 12, 2020

Arrested: James Shaylor, 33, Boise

Charges: Assault-Aggravated (F), Witness-Intimidate, Threatens or Harasses any Person Who Has Testified in Criminal or Juvenile Case (F), Battery (M), Arrests & Seizures-Resisting or Obstructing Officers (M) Property-Malicious Injury to Property (M)

Around 5:30 this morning officers responded to a domestic dispute on the 1400 block of S Division Ave. When officers arrived on scene, they made immediate contact with the victim who exited the residence and was directed to a safe location. Officers were advised that the suspect, James Shaylor, was still inside of the residence. Evidence indicates Shaylor was threatening the victim with a knife and making demands related to a previous battery incident. The suspect was warned several times that officers would come in to arrest him if he did not surrender. Due to the suspect’s history, the Special Operations Unit was activated. A Crisis Negotiation Team made repeated attempts to make contact with the suspect over the phone without success.  Officers used several other tactics to breach the residence and get Shaylor to surrender peacefully. A drone was deployed into the residence, which Shaylor destroyed. At one point Shaylor attempted to escape the residence through the back door and continued to refuse commands, forcing officers to fire 40mm non-lethal rounds. He then retreated back into the home. Shortly after that officers warned the suspect multiple times that they would deploy gas into the residence. Shaylor still refused to comply and officers were forced to deploy the gas into the residence which caused Shaylor to come out of the house. He was then successfully taken into custody without injury around 10:30 a.m.  Shaylor was book into the Ada County Jail on the listed charges.
