BPD arrests suspect after several hours of negotiations

July 24, 2020

Boise police took a suspect into custody this evening following several hours of negotiations at a residence in Boise. The suspect was known to have access to firearms and the suspect had made multiple threats to a victim earlier today.

This afternoon, officers obtained a warrant for the suspect’s arrest on charges of felony intimidation of a state’s witness, felony attempted arson of an occupied residence and misdemeanor protection order violation. The location of the attempted arson earlier today is not being disclosed at this time.

Around 2:30 pm officers attempted to make contact with the suspect and were able to talk with him while he stood at his second story balcony off Allumbaugh St. The suspect refused to come out of the residence and officers eventually were able to continue talking with him over the phone.  A Crisis Negotiation Team was called in to help get the suspect to come out peacefully. After an extended amount of time, BPD’s Special Operations Unit staged nearby. The suspect was warned several times that officers would come in to arrest him if he did not surrender. Officers sent him a copy of the warrant and went over it with him and he still refused to surrender. Shortly after that officers warned the suspect multiple times that they would break a window and deploy OC and CS gas into the residence. The suspect still refused to comply and officers were forced to deploy the gas into the residence which caused the suspect to come out of the house and surrender. He was then successfully taken into custody around 6:30 pm.  The suspect will be booked into the Ada County Jail.

We want to thank the nearby residents who were displaced during this incident for their patience and understanding as we worked to safely take the suspect into custody.
