A suspect is in the hospital after fleeing from police and eventually being stopped on S. Clear Creek Dr. An officer was forced to use his vehicle to stop the suspect’s vehicle which resulted in a collision between the suspect’s vehicle and the officer’s vehicle.  The suspect was injured in the collision.  The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force led by Idaho State Police has been activated to investigate.  The officer was not injured.

What Happened: On 10/27/2020 Boise Police were investigating a report of a recovered stolen vehicle at a residence on S. Benjamin Ave.  At some time in the evening while officers were investigating and speaking with the occupants of the residence, the suspect escaped out of the back of the home. Officers were doing an area search for the suspect around 11:15 p.m. when they saw the suspect get into a taxi near Maple Grove and W. Barnes St. Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on the taxi. The taxi driver attempted to pull over but the suspect forced the taxi driver out of the car and took over driving, fleeing from officers.  Officers learned the suspect had threatened the taxi driver, possibly with a firearm.  Due to the violent nature of the theft, officers pursued the suspect with lights and sirens.  Additional officers and Ada County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to deploy spike strips at Cloverdale and Victory to stop the fleeing vehicle, but the suspect was able to evade them.  The suspect’s vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, often into oncoming traffic. An officer eventually was forced to use his vehicle to stop the suspect’s vehicle on S. Clear Creek Dr.  After the collision, the suspect attempted to flee on foot and was taken into custody by officers.  The police vehicle involved in the collision caught on fire as a result of the crash. The fire spread to another vehicle parked nearby.  Boise Fire responded to put out the fires.  Ada County Paramedics took the suspect to the hospital.  While in the hospital, it was discovered that the suspect had gunshot wounds that had previously been bandaged. He is being treated for what appears to be non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Due to the force stop method used to end the pursuit, and the suspects injuries from the crash, the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force was activated to investigate.
