BPD Detectives recover over $1 Million in stolen items

After a lengthy investigation, Boise Police detectives were able to recover over one million dollars in property including gold coins and other items stolen from a family estate.   BPD Property Crimes detectives had been working on the investigation and searching for the suspect, John Neuenschwander, for six months.  Neuenschwander was located Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021 on the 2600 block of W. Fairview and arrested.  At the time of his arrest, Neuenschwander was in possession of a backpack containing an estimated $300,000 in gold coins.  Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2021 detectives followed up on additional investigative leads and recovered another $600,000 in gold coins as well as jewelry, artwork, guns, and personal property of the victim.  Neuenschwander was booked into the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of Grand Theft.  The investigation is ongoing.
