Shortly after midnight officers were dispatched to Fairview and Dawn for a welfare check on the driver of a truck pulled over on the side of the road. Officers observed a large amount of smoke coming from the truck and saw an adult male driver slumped over in the driver’s seat. One officer approached the vehicle’s window where he could see evidence of recent narcotic use.  The officer knocked on the window, waking the driver, who refused to open the window and turn off the car. The driver put the car into drive and fled the scene. A records check identified the driver as Ernad Aljic.

The officer advised dispatch that the vehicle was fleeing and additional officers responded to the area.  Aljic was traveling at a high rate of speed and at times driving on the wrong side of the road towards oncoming traffic. As officers continued to monitor Aljic and attempt to bring him to a stop, he crashed into an officer’s vehicle and continued driving. Deputies from the Ada County Sheriff’s Office were on scene assisting Boise Police and successfully completed a PIT maneuver, stopping the vehicle near Overland and Five Mile. Aljic was taken into custody on the listed charges.

One Boise Police officer was injured when the suspect crashed into his patrol vehicle.  He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
