On November 10, 2024, at 2:35pm Boise Police responded to a report of suspicious circumstances. A third party reported concerning behavior and a possible hostage situation in a residence on the 1300 block of N. Liberty Street. Information indicated the suspect was armed with a knife and threatening an adult male victim in the residence. Officers began an investigation and worked to make contact with the suspect in the residence. Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect and additional resources were called to the scene including the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Special Operations Unit. Around 5:05pm, the victim safely exited the residence and as officers moved in to assist the victim, the suspect also emerged armed with a knife. An officer involved shooting then occurred with one officer firing at and striking the suspect. Officers immediately provided life-saving aid and the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The Ada County Coroner will identify the deceased pending notification of next of kin. The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene. The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The information provided in this news release is considered preliminary pending an investigation. No Boise Police officers were physically injured, and the involved officer will be placed on administrative leave, per policy.
