On September 5, 2024, around 4:50 p.m. Boise Police officers responded to a report of shots fired on the 7900 block of W. Overland Road. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and located several shell casings in the parking lot. Initially, BPD officers were unable to locate any victims or suspects associated with the incident.
After further investigation and reviewing some nearby surveillance video, officers identified a suspect vehicle and a victim vehicle. The suspect vehicle was located near the scene but was not occupied. Officers also located the victim’s vehicle at a residence in Boise and interviewed three adult male victims. None of the victims received any injuries and their vehicle did not appear to have been struck by gunfire.
Thanks to assistance from some observant witnesses, officers later located and interviewed a suspect, identified as Giovanni Becerra. Evidence indicated there had been a road rage situation between the two parties prior to the shots fired.
When officers located Becerra and in the course of their investigation, detectives found that he was in possession of child sex abuse materials and a stolen vehicle. Evidence also showed that he provided officers with a fictitious name and he attempted to hide the firearm associated with the crime. Becerra was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on the listed charges.
There were no reports of injuries or property damage related to the shooting in the parking lot. Any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police are asked to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790.
