The Boise Police Department is urging all drivers to prioritize safety as the community enters the "100 Deadliest Days," the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day, when traffic fatalities nationwide dramatically increase.
In just the first week of June, three fatal crashes have occurred in Ada and Canyon Counties:
- June 3 – SH 55 & Floating Feather Rd, Eagle
- June 5 – Chinden Blvd & Five Mile Rd, Boise
- June 7 – SH 55 & Riverside Dr, Caldwell
In Boise alone, from June 1 through June 8, there have been 48 reported crashes, resulting in 1 fatality, 15 injuries or possible injuries, and 32 incidents of property damage.
The top contributing factors to these crashes in Boise include:
- Disregarding traffic signals
- Failure to yield
- Following too closely
- Improper lane changes
- Improper turns
"This is a tragic start to what is historically the most dangerous time of year on our roads," said Boise Police Sgt. Matt Konvalinka. "Every life lost is one too many, and each of these crashes underscores why summer traffic safety is so important."
To address these risks, Boise Police have increased enforcement across the city. In May 2025, officers conducted 2,965 traffic stops, marking a 9.5% increase over the same period in 2024.
The Boise Police Department encourages all drivers to:
- Obey traffic signals and signs
- Avoid distractions
- Never drive impaired
- Watch for motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians
- Leave plenty of space between vehicles
“Our goal is to prevent tragedies before they happen. Every driver and motorcycle rider has a responsibility to make smart and safe decisions and follow the rules of the road,” said Sgt. Konvalinka.
Across the State of Idaho, fatality numbers were trending up even before the 100 deadliest days began.
Idaho fatalities January 1 – June 8
2025 – 94
2024 – 88
Idaho fatalities 100 Deadliest Days May 26- June 8
2025 – 13
2024 – 15
Let’s work together to keep our roads safe this summer.
