Boise Police Urge Caution as “100 Deadliest Days” Begins

May 27, 2025

The Boise Police Department is urging drivers to take safety seriously as this is the start of what is known as the “100 Deadliest Days.” Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, traffic fatalities consistently spike across Idaho.

“Every year in Idaho, too many lives are lost in crashes that are preventable,” said Boise Police Corporal Kyle Wills. “As we head into summer, we want drivers to know that it’s up to all of us to drive sober and drive responsibly.”

So far in 2025, BPD officers have made almost 13 thousand traffic stops and responded to over 2600 crashes and hit-and-run investigations. These efforts have led to over 4,700 citations and more than 250 DUI arrests—clear signs that unsafe driving remains a serious concern in the Treasure Valley.

According to the Idaho Office of Highway Safety (OHS), as of May 12, 2025, there have been 74 traffic fatalities in Idaho, compared to 57 at the same time last year.

Safety Tips for the 100 Deadliest Days

To help reduce the number of crashes and fatalities, OHS recommends the following:

  • Wear a Seat Belt: Seat belts increase your odds of surviving a crash by nearly 50%.
  • Drive Engaged: Stay free from distractions and focus on the road ahead.
  • Never Drive Impaired: Always plan for a sober ride home, whether it's a cab, rideshare, designated driver, or staying overnight where you are drinking.
  • Slow Down: Aggressive driving was involved in 61% of the fatal crashes in rural areas in 2023.

Boise Police will be increasing enforcement and visibility during the summer months to reduce risk and hold unsafe drivers accountable. We also ask drivers to do their part to keep the roads safe.
