Boise Police investigate incident involving a self-inflicted injury; Resources Available for Anyone Needing Support

November 28, 2025

On November 28, 2025, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Boise Police officers were dispatched to a report of a reckless driver on Overland Road. The report indicated that a truck driver was speeding and operating without a front tire. A witness reported that the vehicle had come to a stop on W. Malad Street near Phillippi Street and the driver had exited the vehicle. The driver was described as being a white male, about six feet, two inches tall.

Two Boise Police patrol officers arrived in the same patrol car, and another witness pointed out the suspected driver walking on Malad Street to the officers. As officers caught up with the subject near S. Phillippi St and W. Almador Way, the individual produced a firearm. As officers began verbal de-escalation efforts, the subject fired a single round and sustained a life-threatening, self-inflicted injury. Officers immediately secured the scene, provided emergency aid, and Ada County Paramedics transported him to a local hospital. Sadly, the individual did not survive. He was later identified as a teenager, and his name will be released by the Ada County Coroner’s Office pending notification of next-of-kin.

Detectives with the Boise Police Violent Crimes Unit are conducting a death investigation, which remains ongoing. No Boise Police officers fired their weapons during the incident. During the investigation, officers determined the vehicle involved had been reported stolen out of Meridian.

“This is a very difficult investigation for everyone involved, and our hearts go out to this young person’s loved ones and all those impacted,” said Boise Police Captain Josiah Ransom. “If you or someone you know is struggling or needs support now, help is available.
