Tips for a Fun and Fright-Free Halloween

October 22, 2025

This Halloween, thousands of Boise families will be trick-or-treating through neighborhoods or attending one of the many community events around the city. Boise Police remind everyone to keep safety in mind and help make Halloween night fun and safe for all.

Tips for Drivers:

  • Use headlights at all times to spot trick-or-treaters more easily.
  • Slow down and stay alert in neighborhoods and residential areas.
  • Watch for children crossing the street, especially near parked cars or driveways.

Tips for Pedestrians:

  • Cross streets at intersections and use crosswalks whenever possible.
  • Carry a flashlight or wear reflective clothing.
  • Avoid wearing masks that block your vision when crossing the street.

Tips for Bicyclists:

  • Equip bikes with front and rear lights, and wear reflective gear.
  • Use bike lanes when available and yield to pedestrians on sidewalks.
  • Watch for opening car doors and turning vehicles.

Safety Tips for Kids:

  • Only visit homes with porch lights on.
  • Never enter a stranger’s home or car.
  • Stay in groups and keep to well-lit areas.
  • Eat only commercially wrapped treats.
  • Call 911 if you see suspicious or unsafe activity.

Celebrate Responsibly

If your Halloween plans include alcohol, Boise Police urge you to plan ahead. Use a designated driver, taxi, or ride-share service to get home safely.

“Driving under the influence is always the wrong choice,” said Boise Police Cpl. Kyle Wills. “If you plan to have a drink, make a plan for a safe and sober ride home. Let’s make sure this Halloween stays full of fun.”

Halloween on Harrison Boulevard

The city’s most popular Halloween tradition returns to Boise’s North End this year. Beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 31, Harrison Boulevard will close from Hays Street to Hill Road to vehicle traffic, allowing pedestrians only.

Boise Police officers will be on site to help keep an estimated 10,000 trick-or-treaters—from superheroes to spooky villains—safe throughout the evening. The closure will remain in place until 10 p.m.
