Arrested: William Sweet, 49, Caldwell
Charge: Driving-Under the Influence (Aggravated)(F)
On January 4, 2026, at approximately 10:43 pm, Boise Police responded to a crash near 23rd St. and State St. involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Evidence indicates the driver, William Sweet, was traveling east on State St. approaching 23rd St. and drove off the south side of the roadway near the crosswalk entrance. Sweet continued driving on the grass and sidewalk down State St. and struck an adult male pedestrian. After striking the victim, Sweet crashed onto a front lawn on the 2200 block of State St. Upon arrival, officers attempted life-saving measures on the pedestrian victim, but sadly, he died from his injuries at the scene. The Boise Police Criminal Investigations Division and Crash Reconstruction Team responded to investigate the crash as patrol officers closed the road and secured the scene. Sweet was transported to the hospital, and the BPD Selected Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) team responded to the hospital to complete a DUI investigation. Following an investigation, Sweet was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on the Felony charge of Aggravated DUI.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
