Just after 2 a.m. on June 4, 2026, Boise Police officers were patrolling downtown near the intersection of 9th Street and Front Street when an officer observed an individual who appeared to be a juvenile exit a vehicle while it was still in a lane of travel. The individual was seen holding a handgun as he ran from the vehicle
As the individual ran into the parking garage near 9th and Front streets, the officer heard a gunshot. Officers in the area immediately established a perimeter, conducted a traffic stop on the involved vehicle, and secured the scene.
The individual who fled was quickly located and found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Officers provided immediate medical aid. An investigation indicated the 17-year-old accidentally discharged the firearm and shot himself in the leg while running. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that appeared to be non-life-threatening.
The 17-year-old was also cited for curfew violation and consumption of alcohol.
The occupants of the associated vehicle were identified as three juveniles and two adults. The juvenile driver was cited for minor in possession of alcohol.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
