BOISE –Building on the success of last year's Youth Climate Action Fund projects, the City of Boise is excited to announce $85,000 in grant funding to support innovative, youth-led climate initiatives in 2025. This funding, powered by Bloomberg Philanthropies in partnership with United Cities and Local Governments and the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, aims to empower local youth aged 15-24 to take bold climate action.
This is the second year that the City of Boise has received this grant. The city allocated $50,000 in 2024 to 16 impactful projects led by forward-thinking local youth. These initiatives ranged from planting shade trees and pollinator gardens to installing e-bike charging stations and starting school compost and recycling programs. The success of these projects paved the way for this year's increased funding and expanded opportunities.
“Boise’s Youth Climate Action projects have received incredible response,” says Mayor Lauren McLean. “This program empowers our youth to get involved in climate action in meaningful ways, creating a more sustainable and resilient future for our residents and neighborhoods.”
The 2025 Youth Climate Action Fund will support up to 17 projects, each with a budget of $5,000. Projects must be completed by October 31, 2025, and should align with one or more of the City of Boise's Climate Action Roadmap priorities, which include:
- Energy & Buildings: Implement energy efficiency measures for shared spaces or create educational campaigns.
- Water: Promote water conservation.
- Transportation: Encourage alternative transportation like walking, biking, public transit, carpooling and electric vehicles.
- Consumption and Waste: Reduce waste to the landfill and grow a circular economy.
- Food Systems: Grow the local food economy by supporting local, sustainable food producers.
- Natural Environments: Expand the tree canopy and green spaces to support community and environmental health.
- Innovation & Engagement: Advocate and innovate to achieve Boise’s climate goals.
The deadline to submit applications is March 7, 2025. Interested youth are encouraged to start brainstorming project ideas that can make a lasting impact on Boise's climate resilience. For more information and application details, please visit the Boise Youth Climate Action Fund webpage.
