BOISE – The downtown intersection of 6th and Idaho streets is temporarily closed while the city a geothermal water pipe. Work is expected to be complete by Thursday, March 20. Until then, drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to follow all posted signs and use the detours at 5th Street and W Bannock Street.
The City of Boise’s geothermal system has heated downtown with clean, renewable energy since 1983. The city is proactively replacing the entire original system with new, leak-resistant pipes.
"Upgrading Boise’s geothermal system is essential to ensuring its long-term reliability and reducing leaks," said Jon Gunnerson, City of Boise civil engineer. "We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete this repair and continue investing in Boise’s clean, renewable energy future."
