Frequently Asked Question about the Architects

Why wasn’t a local architect hired?
The City of Boise cannot limit the pool of candidates to local applicants only. However, the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) published October 3, 2017 required that firms located outside of Idaho team up with a local architecture firm. Safdie Architects was selected as design lead with award-winning local design firm, CSHQA as executive architect.

Health Impact Assessment

As part of the City of Boise’s contract with Safdie Architects, Vitruvian Planning has been in the process of conducting a Health Impact Assessment (HIA) for the Library Campus project. The HIA is a comprehensive evaluation of the likely impacts of the facility – its site design, transportation network linkages, and program offerings – on the health of the population of the City of Boise. The HIA informs the various steps of the design process for the Library Campus project, allowing changes that lead to further enhancement of site design features and future programming to maximize the project’s health benefits to the community.

You can download the report summarizing Phase I (Health Conditions Assessment) of the HIA below. Please note Phase II is underway, and the report is not yet final. Phase II will focus on recommendations and monitoring, both critical to a successful HIA.
