Housing Affordability Approaches

The City of Boise is experimenting with innovative solutions to housing affordability like Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), tiny homes on wheels and a homesharing platform.

Potential Approaches

Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Program

The city provides a package of incentives to homeowners to build an ADU in their backyard and rent it at rates fellow Boiseans can afford.

Tiny Homes on Wheels Program

The city provides a package of incentives to homeowners who put a tiny home on wheels in their backyard and rent it out, or rent out space in their yard to a tiny home on wheels owner.

Homesharing Platform

Create a platform to connect those who have extra space in their home with others who need affordable rental housing.
