This office provides legal services and advice to the Mayor, the City Council and other city departments on a myriad of issues. Our Civil Division provides services that include contract review, real estate transactions, land use planning, civil litigation and risk management. Our Criminal Division prosecutes misdemeanor and infraction offenses that occur within Boise City limits, and also provides prosecution services to the cities of Meridian, Eagle and Garden City on a contractual basis. Additionally, the Criminal Division provides police training and advice to the Boise and Meridian Police Departments.

The Office of the City Attorney has opportunities for both trial-experienced and newly admitted attorneys. Our mentoring program lets new attorneys experience all aspects of the office and understand the duties and functions they will provide on a day-to-day basis. In addition to our formal mentoring program, we encourage experienced staff to mentor newer employees so that the talents of all can efficiently serve our clients and customers.
The City Attorney’s Civil Section handles the full complement of legal matters for the City of Boise. Each city department and division is supported by the lawyers and professional staff of the Office of the City Attorney. Attorneys for the City have significant experience and expertise in all manner of municipal, land-use, aviation, public-works, code enforcement, municipal finance, government procurement, human resource and property transaction law as well as civil litigation. The Office of the City Attorney is a fast paced public law office with a significant role in making Boise the most livable city in the country.
The Prosecution Team promotes the safety and quality of life for the citizens of Boise City by prosecuting infraction and misdemeanor violations of the Boise City Code and Idaho State Code at all stages. Victims of crime are assisted through the criminal justice process by assigned Victim Witness Coordinators. The Prosecution Division also provides prosecution services for the City of Meridian, City of Eagle and Garden City.
The Police Advice Team provides legal training and advice to the Boise Police Department through departmental training, legal bulletins, policy review, on-call services, and consultation on general liability issues. Our team provides the same services to the Meridian Police Department as part of a contract to provide legal police and prosecution services.
The Criminal Services Division is responsible for business operational functions for the criminal prosecution for the Office of the City Attorney. This Division provides support to the criminal attorneys in the area of criminal prosecutorial support and general legal office business.
