The City of Boise is planning, designing, and constructing improvements to the Lander Street Water Renewal Facility in northwest Boise. Over the next several years, the city will replace aging equipment and disinfection processes and add new state-of-the-art and sustainable water renewal practices at the facility.
The Lander Street Water Renewal Facility is located west of State Street and north of Veteran's Memorial Parkway near the Boise Greenbelt. It was built in 1950. The facility currently treats 10 to 13 million gallons of wastewater each day. Future needs will require the facility to treat up to 17 million gallons each day.
In 2015, the City of Boise studied the option of closing Lander Street facility and consolidating water treatment elsewhere. The study concluded the benefits of keeping the facility open far outweighed the costs. In the past, the city has allowed a portion of Lander Street property to be used for public recreation. Expanding the facility is expected to require changes to the surrounding area.
