The Boise Fire Department celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station 13 today with a hose uncoupling ceremony that brought together local residents, city leaders including Mayor Lauren McLean and Councilmember Jimmy Hallyburton, Boise Police, and partners from CORE Construction.
Located in northwest Boise, on N Bogart Ln., Fire Station 13 represents a major investment in public safety and the growing needs of Boise’s expanding population. The new station enhances Boise Fire’s ability to respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies in the surrounding area, while also relieving response demands on neighboring stations.
Number of calls within Fire Station 13’s 5-minute response area:
- 2022: 2,217 calls for service
- 2023: 2,214 calls for service
- 2024: 2,010 calls for service
Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer began the ceremony with a moment of silence to honor the firefighters recently lost from Coeur d'Alene and Kootenai County Fire. Despite the heavy hearts, he also emphasized the significance of the ceremony.
“This is a significant milestone for the City of Boise,” said Niemeyer. “Fire Station 13 will improve response times, increase safety for our firefighters, and provide the high level of service our community expects and deserves.”
The modern firehouse, designed by Rice Fergus Miller in collaboration with Pivot North Architecture features:
- Three engine bays to house fire apparatus
- One fully staffed fire engine, with a crew of four firefighters
- A brush rig to support wildland fire response in the foothills
- A Boise Police drop-in office and interview room for officers serving the area
- A fully electric design that supports the City of Boise’s climate action goals and green building standards
- Living quarters designed to accommodate up to six fire crew members
- A dedicated fitness area and equipment storage space
“As Boise continues to grow, our commitment to supporting essential services remains stronger than ever,” said Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. “This new, all-electric fire station not only reinforces our dedication to protecting the community and providing our firefighters with the tools they need but also aligns with our city’s climate goals by embracing sustainable, environmentally friendly infrastructure.”
After the grand opening ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to tour the new station and meet the firefighters who will be serving the area. Fire Station 13 is now fully operational and ready to serve the Boise community.
