Construction on a gate on Tablerock Road at the intersection of Alta Via Court will begin this week.
The City of Boise, the Idaho Historical Society, the Idaho Department of Lands, homeowners in the area and non-profit organizations have been working together in an advisory committee capacity to address concerns of public safety, traffic and damage to public and private property in the area. In May 2020, the Idaho Historical Society closed vehicle access to the top of Table Rock as a preliminary step.
The City of Boise and the Ada County Highway District (ACHD) determined that the best option to address the impacts to public access and public safety is a gate, which will be operational in the beginning of April 2021. The gate will be open sunrise to sunset to allow for limited vehicle parking. There is no vehicle access at the top of the mesa.
Visitors can continue to access Table Rock at the two trailheads associated with Table Rock trails – the Old Penitentiary trailhead and the Mesa Trailhead adjacent to Warm Springs Golf Course.
