At 9:46 am Boise Police responded to a subject and a vehicle stopped in the road on Fairview Ave. between N. Liberty St and N. Hartman St. Initial information indicated a male adult subject was attempting to flag down drivers, and calling parties were concerned for his welfare. One officer arrived on scene, pulling up behind the subject’s vehicle. The officer, wearing full police uniform was driving an unmarked police car with lights activated. The subject exited the vehicle and after a brief interaction, the officer was forced to discharge his duty weapon injuring the suspect. The officer immediately began life-saving care. The subject was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition. In coordination with the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office charges are pending against the subject for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Against an Officer.
The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office has been activated to investigate the shooting. Any video evidence will be reviewed as part of the investigation. The information in this news release is considered preliminary pending the results of the CITF investigation. Any witnesses who have not yet contacted police are asked to fill out a contact form at cityofboise.org/police. All information will be automatically forwarded to The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force.
As with all critical incidents, The Boise Police Department will also conduct an internal investigation. There will also be a separate investigation conducted by the City of Boise Office of Police Accountability.
The officer involved in this incident was not injured and is on paid administrative leave per department policy. Fairview reopened at 12:45pm.
