UPDATE: Officer-Involved Shooting near Fairview and Records

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force led by the Garden City Police Department continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting yesterday on January 23, 2023.  The Ada County Coroner has identified the suspect as 32-year-old Eli Nash. CITF investigators have confirmed that the suspect was wanted for a parole violation related to charges of sexual exploitation of a minor. Nash has been a wanted fugitive of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) since November 13, 2022. Investigators recovered a firearm from the scene.  

The involved Boise Police officer who fired his duty weapon is identified as K. Paporello, a 23-year veteran police officer.

At approximately 4:30pm, Boise Police officers and Fugitive Recovery Agents from the Idaho Department of Correction were searching for an adult male suspect wanted on felony charges near E. Fairview Ave. and N. Records Way. Officers were attempting to take the suspect into custody and remove him from a car when he produced a weapon. One Boise Police officer was forced to discharge his weapon, striking the suspect. Officers immediately rendered medical aid, but the suspect died on scene. He will be identified by the Ada County Coroner’s Office pending notification of next of kin. The Ada County Critical Incident Task force led by the Garden City Police Department is investigating the incident.

Any video evidence will be reviewed as part of the investigation. The information in this news release is considered preliminary pending the results of the CITF Investigation. The officer involved in this incident was not physically injured and will be placed on paid administrated leave per department policy. 

As with all critical incidents, the Boise Police Department will also conduct an internal investigation. There will also be a separate investigation conducted by the City of Boise Office of Police Accountability.
