This morning Boise Police and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office began looking for a subject who was reportedly headed to Boise from Oregon and was sending his family threatening messages. Boise Police officers began responding to the area near family members’ homes in Southeast Boise over concerns he may be headed there. Deputies located the subject driving in Star and attempted to stop the vehicle in Eagle. The subject eluded deputies and continued driving into Boise. He stopped his vehicle on the Southeast corner of E. Boise Ave and Apple Street and exited the vehicle with what appeared to be a firearm. The subject pointed and appeared to discharge that weapon at officers. One Boise Police officer and one Ada County Sheriff’s Deputy discharged their weapons at the suspect. The suspect was struck but ran eastbound. Officers chased down the suspect on foot and took him into custody. The suspect was taken to a local hospital and will be booked into the Ada County Jail once medically cleared. A CO2-powered BB gun was recovered from the scene. This information is considered preliminary and part of an ongoing investigation.
The officer and deputy involved were not physically hurt and they will be placed on administrative leave per policy. The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Meridian Police Department is investigating this critical incident. The CITF investigation is ongoing. All video of this incident will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. The information in this news release is considered preliminary pending the CITF investigation.
