Boise burglary suspect arrested in Washington

Arrested: Jacob Smart, 38

Ada County Warrant: Burglary - I18-1401 (4 counts), Theft-Grand - I18-2403(1)F (3 counts), Trespass - I18-7006

Today, February 26, 2024, law enforcement in Cowlitz County, Washington took Jacob Smart into custody. Information about Smart’s arrest can be found here on the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

In addition to pending charges in Cowlitz County, Smart is facing multiple warrants out of Ada County including four counts of Burglary, three counts of Grand theft, and one count of Trespassing.  Extradition to Idaho will be decided by the courts.

Boise Police detectives have identified a suspect related to a series of burglaries last year involving a man stalking and entering female’s homes.  Among the items taken from the homes was a firearm, personal identification, debit and credit cards, and women’s underwear. Some burglaries included forced entry.  In one burglary, the suspect moved personal items around in the home. In another burglary, the suspect entered the home while the victims were asleep, stole house keys and was then seen on surveillance video later attempting to reenter the house but the victims had already changed the locks.

“This warrant is the result of community support, many hours of investigative work, and cooperation among numerous agencies and victims.  Thank you to everyone who called in tips for this investigation and waited patiently for updates,” said Boise Police Criminal Investigations Division Captain Matt Jones. “We know this was a very concerning report for our community and we are committed to continuing to work with our law enforcement partners across the west to locate and arrest this suspect”

Boise Police are investigating a burglary on the 2500 block of N. 31st St. on October 10th. The residents were out of town at the time of the burglary but the suspect was captured on home surveillance video. Investigators believe this suspect is also responsible for another burglary that same day near Boise Ave. and Chrisway Dr. Anyone who may recognize the suspect or has information is asked to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790.
